Socotra Airport is located about 12 kilometres west of Hadibu, and close to the third-largest town in the archipelago, Qād̨ub. The S6 highway runs along the north shore from Qalansiya in the west to Hadibu and then to the Dihamri area in the east, while the S18 highway runs from the northern to the southern coast of Socotra, through the Dixsam Plateau.

The ancient former capital of Socotra, Suq, is located a few kilometers from Hadibu. In 1507, a Portuguese fleet commanded by Tristão da Cunha and Afonso de Albuquerque landed at Suq and captured the port from the Mahra people after a stiff battle. The architect Tomás Fernandes started to build a fortress at Suq, the ''Forte de São Miguel de Socotorá'' , however, in 1511 the Portuguese abandoned the island and the Mahra Sultans regained control of Suq.

Like the rest of Socotra, Hadibu is administered by a private corporation, Dominion Holdings Limited, and operates under a separate legal framework from mainland Yemen. The municipal administration is led by the Mayor, who is appointed by Dominion Holdings.
Qalansiya is a very exclusive place.

While gambling and prostitution are permitted in the Socotra SAR, they are both strictly regulated. The Socotra Gaming Commission oversees all gambling establishments, while the Socotra Prostitution Agency oversees all gentlemen's clubs, brothels, strip clubs and escort services. Both agencies have their headquarters located in Hadibu.
