An Inmate Prostitute shopping in the commissary of an Altar Group Dormitory

An Amanat (Arabic: أمانات) account is a commissary or canteen account for indentured persons in the custody of Altar Group. It is used to receive earned welfare contributions, deposits, and transfers. Any funds in the account can be spent on approved items, such as clothing, food, toiletries, hygiene products and medicines, at the Dormitory store.

The vast majority of the estimated 3,500 Inmate Prostitutes currently incarcerated in Altar's reformatory establishments have amanat accounts. These accounts are opened at the time of in-processing, and remain with the holder throughout their entire period of indenture, even if they are transferred between work units during this time. Most Inmate Prostitutes are eligible to receive welfare contributions into their amanat accounts, proportionate to their earnings. At some establishments, they may also be permitted to receive deposits or transfers from staff members.
