Indenture Laws in the United States

From Soutar36

Indentured labor became legal in the United States in 2039. The primary legislation governing indenture is the Criminal Sentencing Reform Act (CSRA), which came into force on 1 March 2039. As a result of the CSRA, time-based sentences in federal prison were abolished, and all crimes instead became punishable by monetary fines. For certain felonies, courts have discretion to require a portion (ranging from 10% to 50%) of the fine to be paid by indentured labor. Between 2035 to 2044, various states enacted their own indenture laws, resulting in prison sentences being completely abolished across all 50 states.
