She was interested in majoring in psychology, and had aspirations of becoming a clinical psychologist. In addition to her academic achievements, she was also an accomplished student athlete, representing her school in volleyball and soccer.

Eleanor "Ellie" Marsh was born on 21 December 2010 in Rochester, Minnesota, to David C. Marsh and Lauren Marsh. She has an older brother, Jonathan Marsh (born 2008). Her father was a foreign service officer with the US Department of State, and prior to this, he was an infantry officer in the United States Army from 2003 to 2007. During his time with the Army, David Marsh served three combat tours in Iraq. Ellie's mother, Lauren Marsh, was a registered nurse who worked at a private pediatric clinic.
In 2021, when Ellie was 11, the Marsh family relocated from Rochester to Minneapolis. In February 2025, David was assigned to the US Embassy in Israel as a political attaché. He returned to the United States in July 2027 and resigned from the State Department to start a nutritional supplements business shortly after.
In 2028, Ellie applied to the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and was offered admission for the fall semester beginning in September 2029. However, she chose to defer her admission and take a gap year, during which she helper her father with his business and traveled across South America. In June 2030, Ellie abruptly stopped communicating with her family. Local police in Peru found no records of her leaving the country, and she was reported as a missing person. On 7 June, she had been abducted by agents of Altar Group, and renditioned to Saudi Arabia.
Pre-Indenture
Lawsuits Against David C. Marsh (2029)
On 19 August 2029, David C. Marsh was served with a summons to appear before the Regional Sha'aria Court of Al-Jafr, Saudi Arabia, in response to a complaint from senior Al-Qaeda leader Abd al-Rahman al-Maghrebi, concerning his role in intercepting a $15 million donation from Al-Qaeda to Syrian militants in order to aid them in resisting the establishment of new Jewish settlements in the Golan Heights in June 2025. At the time, Marsh was a political attaché at the US Embassy in Israel, reporting to Ambassador Mike Huckabee, and was allegedly involved in a secret plot to help the Israeli government take advantage of the fall of Bashar al-Assad in Syria by deepening its control over the occupied Golan Heights. Marsh did not respond to this lawsuit.
On 8 September, Marsh was served with a summons to appear before a Sha'aria court in Yusufiyah, Iraq, to answer a complaint from Ahmed Qassim Hamza al-Janabi, whose 14 year old sister Abeer was gang-raped and murdered by US soldiers in the Mahmudiyah rape and killings on 12 March 2006. The lawsuit filed by al-Janabi alleged that Marsh, who was serving as a lieutenant in the US Army at the time, played a contributory role in the atrocity by way of deliberately failing to report that he had heard one of the rapists, Jesse Spielman, discuss plans to "fuck up the Iraqi dogs" prior to the actual crime. Marsh did not respond to this lawsuit.
Judgment and Attempts at Debt Collection (2029 - 2030)
On 15 October, the court in Saudi Arabia issued its judgment against Marsh, ordering him to pay compensatory damages of $6 million plus $1.7 million in costs to the plaintiff. Marsh ignored the judgment. On 2 November, the court in Iraq issued its judgment, ordering him to pay compensation of $5.1 million plus $820,000 in costs to the plaintiff. He ignored both of these judgments.
On 23 November, Marsh was served with a letter of demand by Hamad Munawar and Associates, a law firm based in Dearborn, Michigan, claiming to represent the plaintiffs in both cases. The letter demanded full payment of $13,620,000 to the plaintiffs. After taking legal advice from his attorney, who informed him that there was no chance of either judgment being enforced in the US, Marsh decided to ignore the letter of demand. On 30 December, Marsh received a phone call from an unknown number, in which the caller told him to "pay up or you will regret the consequences". Again, he paid no heed to this call, and proceeded to block the number.
On 19 January 2030, Marsh was approached by a man wearing a black hoodie outside his place of business. The man allegedly said: "This is your final warning to pay what you owe, or bad things will happen." Marsh reported this incident to the local police, claiming that he was being harassed.
Abduction and Disappearance (2030)
On 2 June 2030, Ellie Marsh was walking back to her rented apartment in the Miraflores district of Lima, Peru, following a visit to a grocery store when she was suddenly abducted by four men wearing masks. The men were members of the Al-Akhuat al-Namir (Tiger Brothers) gang who had been retained by Altar Group. Marsh was subsequently renditioned to Saudi Arabia, driven to a remote location in the Al-Ahsa region, and sedated.
On 3 June, Marsh was informed that her father's debts of $13,620,000 had been sold to Batuli Finance Corporation, and that she would now be responsible for those debts.
On 4 June, in a closed-door hearing, Judge Suleiman Saadi issued a judgment against Eleanor Marsh in favor of Batuli Finance Corporation for $13,620,000, plus costs of $1,500,000. Judge Saadi also issued an indenture order, committing Marsh into the custody and conservatorship of Tareq al-Saqqaf, the CEO of Batuli Finance Corporation. Marsh was not present at these legal proceedings, and was deemed to have no answer to the plaintiffs' application.
On 6 June, Marsh was informed that Batuli Finance Corporation was the finance arm of Altar Luxury Group, the world's largest operator of adult entertainment establishments, and that she would work as a prostitute to repay her debts. Tareq al-Saqqaf delegated his conservatorship to Mokhtar al-Ansar, the Commandant of Altar's Female Vocational Training Center (FVTC). On 7 June, custodial officers from FVTC took her into their custody.

Detention at FVTC
On the evening of 7 June, Marsh was brought to FVTC to be in-processed. Immediately after her arrival, she was stripped naked and restrained at the wrists and ankles. Thereafter, she was raped by three custodial guards.
Marsh was assigned to a single-occupancy cell in Dormitory B, and was scheduled to begin Reformative Training on 1 August. Until then, she would remain in detention, and would spend most of her time in a small 45 sq ft cell with barely enough room to lie down. In accordance with FVTC security protocols, she was required to be restrained at the wrists and ankles 24/7 for the first seven days following her arrival, including while inside the confines of her own cell.
On 8 June, Poganina was taken to see Commandant Mokhtar Al-Ansar, who informed her that she was now an Inmate Prostitute, and explained her rights and obligations. She was further informed that FTVC would apply its standard 25% management fee to her debt balance, and that her total amount outstanding was now $18,900,000.
Because her debt balance exceeded $2.5 million, FVTC's policy was that she was to be sterilized via tubal ligation instead of being given an IUD. This was to ensure that she was available for sexual use at all times without any risk of pregnancy. That afternoon, she was taken to the medical center for the sterilization procedure to be carried out.
Adjustment Difficulties
During her first few weeks at FVTC, Marsh experienced significant difficulties in adjusting to her new reality. According to reports from FVTC staff, her behavior was "frenzied" and "hysterical", often bursting into tears and sobbing uncontrollably for hours. She was also observed by FVTC Medical Officer Hakim Rezgui to be "dissociative" and "detached from reality". In particular, she constantly insisted that they "had the wrong person" in custody, even though she repeatedly confirmed her name, date of birth, and nationality.
In his report, he wrote:
"The subject is incoherent and unable to follow a logical train of thought. She seems unable to regulate her own mood, and may also lack awareness of her surroundings."
On 18 June, Rezgui officially classified her as "uncooperative" and "potentially unable to voluntarily comply with her obligations under the Inmate Prostitutes' Charter".

As such, he authorized staff members to forcibly restrain Marsh to compel her to fulfil the sexual access requirement as stipulated in the Charter. As many of the FVTC custodial guards were exasperated with her uncooperative behavior over the past two weeks, they saw this as an opportunity to exact retribution. In order to humiliate her further, they would deliberately ejaculate all over her body after using her, and then leave her in restraints for hours, covered in cum and unable to clean herself.
In addition, the guards also beat her feet with a heavy paddle until they were badly swollen, rendering her unable to stand, squat or walk on them, instead forcing her to kneel or crawl for several days after. As soon as her feet healed, they would subject her to another beating, ignoring her pleas for mercy. This continued for several weeks, with a particularly heavy beating on 4 July to ironically "celebrate" the United States' Independence Day.
Rezgui also prescribed Marsh with anti-depressants and sedatives, which caused her to be more complaint. On 13 July, he noted that she was still showing signs of "denial of reality" on occasion, but that her behavior and conduct overall had "significantly improved". For instance, he noted that she was now able to competently report her presence during routine inspections, and was capable of complying with simple instructions to assume positions such as "bend over" or "spread your legs" for sexual use and access. Accordingly, he certified that Marsh no longer needed to be restrained within the confines of her own cell, including during sexual use. On 17 July, he certified that she was medically fit to commence Reformative Training on 1 August.
